Festive opening as Wimpy returns to Sittingbourne
Well-known British hamburger brand Wimpy is returning to Sittingbourne with a smart new 100-seater restaurant in the centre of the town.
New franchisee Adnan Etemi and his team are due to open their doors for the first time on Monday, December 18, just in time for the final Christmas rush.
Sittingbourne’s previous Wimpy closed in 2011 and the relaunch of the iconic brand has brought 10 new jobs to the local area, including table waiters and waitresses, and chefs.
A delighted Adnan said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be back in town, Sittingbourne has huge potential and we can’t wait to introduce customers to our many favourite dishes, such as our famous Wimpy burgers with British beef and the much-loved Knickerbocker Glory.
“Everyone in the Wimpy team has been extremely helpful and encouraging throughout the process and we can’t wait to get on with what we do best, which is serving people.”
Adnan, who also has two other Wimpy restaurants at Chatham Docks and Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex, has invested almost £200,000 in the new venture. The restaurant has been fitted out with Wimpy UK’s smart new Shift Design, which builds on the brand’s strong heritage and much-loved traditions, while also featuring bright new colours, furnishings and uniforms.
Chris Woolfenden, general manager of Wimpy UK, said: “We are delighted that Wimpy has finally been able to return to Sittingbourne. Generations of local families will have grown up here enjoying a Wimpy burger and we are just thrilled that they will once again have the opportunity to do so.
“We know from his successes with his two other restaurants, that Adnan and his team will do a fantastic job and we wish him all the very best.”
Looking to the future Adnan, who gained his own experience in the food trade by working in a variety of different pubs and restaurants, says he also has ambitions to add more Wimpy restaurants to his portfolio in the future.
The latest opening brings the total number of Wimpy restaurants in the UK to 79. Wimpy was the first hamburger restaurant in the UK and it is currently updating many of its existing restaurants nationwide, as well as looking for new locations and franchisees to join the Wimpy family.
